Play therapy

Why play works

The right modality for developing minds

Play lowers defenses, supports bilateral stimulation and storytelling, and lets children show what words cannot. It is especially effective for trauma, attachment, anxiety, ADHD, and behavioral concerns in children ages 2–12.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

  • Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate counseling approach that helps children process big emotions, navigate relationships, and build coping skills using their natural language—play.

Rather than relying only on words, children use toys, games, stories, and art to express themselves. At Happy Camper, we use evidence-based play therapy techniques to support emotional regulation, behavior change, social-emotional learning, and trauma recovery.

  • We support children, teens, and families across developmental stages. Play therapy is especially effective for younger children; teens and parents often participate in skill-building portions of sessions or separate coaching.

If you are unsure about fit for your child’s age, reach out—we are happy to discuss options.

  • Yes—parent and caregiver involvement is an essential part of our approach.

We also provide parent coaching via telehealth to deepen your toolbox and support progress at home.

    • Each mobile play therapy session includes 30 minutes of individual play therapy with the child
    • 15 minutes of directive skill-building with both the child and parent/caregiver present in the mobile therapy space
  • Concierge Mobile Play Therapy is a premium, in-home service where a licensed therapist brings a fully equipped, child-friendly therapy office directly to your home in a customized mobile van.

This setup removes the stress of transportation, supports consistency, and provides children with a safe, inviting space to process emotions and build skills right outside their front door.

  • All sessions are 45–50 minutes, including mobile play therapy, parent coaching (telehealth), in-home family therapy, and individual counseling for teens and adults.

  • Yes, we offer limited after-school and weekend appointments, though they fill quickly.

We also encourage families to consider daytime sessions—schools often allow excused absences for therapy, and children often return to class with improved focus, regulation, and academic engagement.

  • Session fees typically range from $65–$300 per session, depending on the type of service, setting (in-home, mobile office, nature-based, or telehealth), and your therapist’s credentials.

We are happy to discuss rates for concierge packages, group therapy, and specialized formats during your discovery call.

  • We are in network with United Healthcare and Aetna.

For other plans, we can often provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.
